This research study is aimed at understanding the complex processes and interruptions in the nursing work environment that may contribute to patient safety incidents. This research study examines the concept of interruptions in nurses’ work, the systems issues related to interruptions in nursing work, their relationship to nursing, organizational and patient safety outcomes in hospital settings in the Toronto area.
